Professional services firm RPC has revealed two new appointments – both from US law firm Sedgwick, which less than a week ago announced it will cease operations in January.

In a clear indication of the ever-increasing importance of terrorism insurance, one of the key hires is Naomi Vary, whose experience centres on political risk, terrorism insurance, trade credit, and other political matters. Joining as partner, Vary will be building RPC’s political risk team in London.

Also named as partner is Karen Morrish, a specialist in professional indemnity matters experienced in defending claims against lawyers, financial advisers, accountants, and insurance intermediaries. Her move brings RPC’s London professional indemnity team to seven partners.

“Bringing Naomi and Karen on board makes perfect sense for us,” commented RPC head of insurance Simon Laird. “Naomi will be building out our political risk team in London and joining up with Geraldine Bourke in Singapore to add a truly international service to our clients.

“Karen joins a team which is operating at its capacity and needs to grow. She’ll add real strength to the team and provide an impressive depth of experience that our clients in London and Bristol will benefit from.”

Areas of RPC’s insurance practice include corporate insurance and financial services, as well as insurance disputes and claims. In addition to the UK, the firm also has offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.

“With Naomi and Karen’s arrival to RPC, we’ll be able to offer our clients the service they have been asking us for,” said Laird. “We’re bringing in a team of lawyers who are technically brilliant but who also understand the business of insurance.”
