Gallagher Bassett (GB) UK has partnered with Treeapp to integrate environmental impact into its initiative, linking fraud prevention outcomes with reforestation efforts.

The ‘Net Zero Tolerance to Fraud’ program, developed in collaboration with DHL Supply Chain and legal services provider DWF was launched in July 2024 and will run through 2029. Treeapp facilitates reforestation projects in the UK and abroad.

The initiative commits to planting 500 trees annually in the UK for each year fraud prevention savings meet or exceed target levels. In its first year, GB reported that the programme surpassed expectations, resulting in Treeapp facilitating the planting of the first 500 trees.

The project was introduced after DHL Supply Chain tasked the claims provider with creating a scalable and effective fraud management solution. Estimates suggest that fraud affects between 2% and 10% of all insurance claims, prompting the need for more structured detection and prevention strategies.

Gallagher Bassett has been investing in artificial intelligence to enhance fraud detection and overall claims efficiency. Its application of AI in counter-fraud processes is intended to support early identification of irregularities, helping claims handlers flag and escalate suspicious activity more effectively.

GB and DHL Supply Chain have tied the initiative to their broader environmental aims, including a shared commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. Progress will be monitored through Treeapp’s platform, which provides digital tracking of reforestation efforts.

John Fearn (pictured above), chief operating officer at GB UK, highlighted how the partnership has delivered gains in both claims performance and environmental contribution.

“Our partnership with Treeapp allows us to turn our fraud prevention success into a tangible contribution to the sustainability of the industry,” Fearn said.

In parallel with its environmental and claims initiatives, GB is also expanding its reach into emerging areas of risk management. The firm has increased its presence in sectors such as healthcare, marine and cargo, and cyber liability.
