Offering her take on the matter, Sonia Habib, head of product development (wholesale) at Jensten Group, noted that, to date, there have been a lot more talent-centric initiatives from the larger composite markets. These include apprenticeship schemes, internships and graduates schemes, she said, and they’re being used to make a difference in people’s careers.

“However,” she said, “I don’t think there’s enough visibility in educational systems to know that there is that option. And I think hearing anecdotally from people that have experienced it themselves, and can say that it is a worthwhile route to pursue, you need to hear that first-hand and not second-hand or third-hand.

“In terms of what more they could be doing, I think we should be singing from the rooftops about the insurance industry. I think we should be saying actually, it’s an amazing career. It’s full of opportunities and networking opportunities, and you meet some people that actually become your family, which is amazing.”

Yasmin Carter-Esdale, senior account executive at Hiscox, added that she is seeing a real willingness to change in the insurance profession at the moment.

“I think companies are doing a lot more to try and embed employee advocacy programmes, and really do outreach work to get through to young people,” she said. “I still think there’s more that we could be doing, definitely in terms of social media platforms - especially TikTok. But I understand they’re a little bit scary right now and it takes someone to take that first brave step.”
