Insurance Business UK’s 5-Star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 2023 report honours companies that support, respect and champion their employees and their unique contributions. The awardees have implemented outstanding DE&I initiatives by investing leadership time and commitment, using company resources correctly to maximise results, and sticking with policies long-term as a continuous process.
Arch Insurance International, one of this year’s winners, has committed time to managing executive-level resources to foster progress and accepting the need to hire people from other industries.
Arch Insurance Internation was awarded as one of the Top Insurance Employers. See the full list of winners by reading the Best Insurance Companies to Work For in United Kingdom | Top Insurance Employers 2023 in IB's special report.
“We are fully focused on DE&I targets, and these are embedded in our strategy,” said Marcella McLean, chief human resources officer at Arch Insurance International. “We have found that by being meritocratic, objective, and open in our hiring processes, we’ve achieved many of our diversity targets in advance of our target dates,” McLean added.
5-Star DE&I awardee Flood Re also highlighted the importance of acknowledging that inclusion means different things to different people and sticking to one plan in the face of constantly changing ideas.
Jenny Cooper, the director of HR at Flood Re, explained that “particularly post-COVID, employees want something different – that employee experience and the importance employees place on being in alignment with an organisation’s values and purpose and working somewhere that’s really meaningful for them. This has really grown above and beyond pay being a primary factor."
