Coalition grows UK presence

US-headquartered cyber insurance provider Coalition, which expanded into the UK in September 2022, has hired an underwriter in Manchester as part of the company’s move to provide regional support for brokers outside London.

Gareth Machin (pictured), whose focus will be on developing relationships with brokers in Northwest England, previously served as senior professional indemnity underwriter at Allianz and as a Chubb senior cyber underwriter. His credentials also include time spent at WTW, RSA, and QBE.

In an emailed release, Machin commented: “I simply could not turn down the chance to work for such a forward-thinking and innovative company. I hope the combination of Coalition’s offering and my experience and relationships will make this a success.

“I look forward to supporting local brokers and helping businesses to better protect themselves against cyber risks.”

The appointment, according to UK risk engineering head Stephen Wares, signifies an acceleration of Coalition’s focus on regional development and underwriting.

“He’ll be our first Manchester-based regional risk engineer who will also act as a gateway to our underwriting expertise for our brokers in the region,” Wares said. “With his considerable experience and local knowledge, Gareth will be a valuable addition to our growing team.”
