AEGIS London has announced an enhancement of its cyber insurance capabilities with the recruitment of a new underwriting team.
Daniel Johnson (pictured above, right) has been named as the new class underwriter for cyber, with Lydia Lambert (pictured above, left) joining as a cyber underwriter. Both individuals are transitioning to AEGIS London from AIG.
Lambert, meanwhile, has worked closely with Johnson at AIG, advancing through various cyber underwriting positions to eventually lead the major accounts cyber team.
Ben Lockwood, head of specialty underwriting at AEGIS London, expressed confidence in the new appointments.
“In Dan and Lydia, I believe we’ve found the right individuals to craft a sensible, robust and profitable cyber portfolio for AEGIS London that’s sustainable across the insurance cycle,” he said.
Lockwood further elaborated on the firm's renewed focus on the cyber sector and the right timing for its practice’s major expansion.
“Although we’ve not had a dedicated cyber team since 2015, we’ve been watching the market with great interest, in part because we’ve been involved in a number of cyber binders and consortia,” he said. We feel now that the market’s matured, learned some hard lessons and begun to find some sort of equilibrium as an important part of the wider Lloyd’s market. Underwriters’ ability to assess price and aggregate risk has also come on by leaps and bounds, which gives us confidence in the class.”
Johnson also commented on his new role and praised the support that this company gives as he builds the cyber portfolio further.
“As a class underwriter, AEGIS London provides me with the stable, profitable, long-term focused platform necessary to build a strong portfolio. The cyber market provides an attractive opportunity for AEGIS London to strategically diversify its specialty classes,” Johnson said.
