Specialty MGA UK has appointed Sam Hui (pictured above) as senior underwriter for onshore construction and energy as the firm expands its capacity in the construction sector.
Hui brings more than 30 years of experience in construction and energy underwriting, having started his career in marine insurance.
Hui previously worked at Advent Syndicate 780, where he built a track record of working with clients worldwide and established a global network of brokers, insurers, and agents.
Specialty MGA UK group chairman Manoj Kumar said the appointment aligns with the firm's expansion strategy.
“With the construction sector on track for sustained growth in 2025, I am delighted to be adding Sam to our team,” Kumar said. “Sam brings extensive experience of these international markets as well as deep technical expertise, greatly benefiting our MGA as we continue our expansion and growth in this important line of business.”
Hui will oversee underwriting for onshore construction risks, including single projects and annual facilities for owners, project sponsors, and contractors. His responsibilities will also cover machinery breakdown and mining plant and equipment.
In addition to his construction role, Hui will write the upstream energy account, contributing to the MGA’s energy portfolio. The firm has been increasing its focus on opening additional capacity for clients.
“It’s clear that Manoj and Specialty MGA UK recognise the huge opportunities in the construction industry, and I’m looking forward to working with the team as we continue to provide innovative and bespoke solutions to address our clients’ needs, building on an already successful and profitable book of business,” Hui said.
The company’s last major appointment saw it bolstering its international property, financial lines, and cyber units by adding Luke Bristow, Tony Loizides, and Lisa Rowe as senior underwriters.
