After three decades at the top, Tim Smith is waving goodbye to insurance broker Marsh and its Marsh JLT Specialty practice where he was chairman of UK construction, infrastructure and surety. While sad to see him go, the brokerage giant has moved quickly to find a replacement – bringing Mike Johnson (pictured) into the role, effective immediately.
“While the construction industry has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are significant opportunities to now play a part in the global long-term economic recovery from the crisis,” said Johnson. “I look forward to working with Scot and our talented UK team of construction specialists, as we assist clients in managing the uncertainties that these challenging times present.”
Johnson, who will report to Scot Peachey, the firm’s CEO of UK construction, infrastructure and surety, originally joined JLT back in 1988 and has since held a host of senior insurance and risk advisory roles across the construction practice. His most recent position saw him as head of the global contractors team, and Peachey believes this experience is something the firm can capitalise on.
“With his extensive experience in the national and international construction industry, Mike brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to this role at a time when the sector is navigating its path to recovery from COVID-19,” Peachey said.
“On behalf of the business, we also thank Tim for his contribution and dedication over the last three decades, and wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement,” he added.
