Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), a division of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Nikunj Mahida (pictured above) as head of third party claims for the UK and MENA regions, effective immediately.
In the role, Mahida will oversee the London claims team, focusing on LSM’s financial and professional (FINPRO), cyber, and casualty lines. His promotion reflects his extensive experience in these areas and his understanding of client needs.
Mahida has been with LSM since November 2015, when he joined as a senior claims specialist for FINPRO. He later became claims manager for FINPRO in September 2018 and was promoted to head of FINPRO claims and cyber claims lead in October 2023.
Mahida will report to Scott Kellers, head of claims for the same regions.
Kellers stated that Mahida’s experience in the claims process, coupled with his leadership approach, will be valuable to the team.
“We are delighted to announce that Nik is stepping into the role of head of third party claims for UK & MENA,” Kellers said. “His in-depth understanding of the claims process combined with his outstanding leadership mentality will be a valuable asset to the team. At Liberty, we’ve been investing in claims talent over many years. To have someone of Nik’s calibre moving into this role demonstrates our bench strength and the importance we attach to our claims service.”
Before joining LSM, Mahida worked as a senior claims specialist at Chubb. He is also a qualified solicitor, having obtained his qualification in 2010.
Earlier this month, LSM named Henry Nelson as chief underwriting officer for its UK and MENA operations, effective in the New Year.
The internal hire will begin transitioning into his duties over the next few weeks, working closely with outgoing CUO Mel O’Neill prior to the latter’s retirement at the end of 2024.
Nelson’s new responsibilities will include managing underwriting strategy across the UK and MENA markets, with a focus on driving profitable growth and fostering a culture of high performance. He will report to UK & MENA president Luis Prato and LSM CUO Ronald Bolaños.
