The Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) has introduced a new claims awards scheme aimed at recognising excellence within the Lloyd’s market claims community.

This initiative is part of the LMA’s broader strategy to strengthen the talent pipeline in claims. The awards seek to promote claims as an attractive and dynamic career path.

They will culminate in a presentation evening on May 15, 2025, and include seven categories: the LMA Claims Committee Chair Award, Claims Innovation, Claims in Action, Rising Star – Adjusting, Rising Star – Operations, Future Leader, and Significant Contribution.

Janine Powell, claims director at the LMA, stated that challenges in attracting and retaining talent have been consistently raised within the community. She noted that external factors, including competition for top talent and a changing workforce demographic, continue to impact the claims sector.

Powell added that the LMA’s claims awards are a way to elevate the claims proposition by spotlighting rising stars, showcasing the sector’s diversity, and bringing together the London market claims community.

The announcement follows several recent LMA initiatives aimed at supporting the Lloyd’s market.

On March 13, the LMA hosted a panel discussion marking the 10-year anniversary of the Insurance Act, where legal experts and market professionals reviewed its impact on underwriting and claims. The discussion explored whether the Act has delivered on its objectives and how it has influenced contract certainty and dispute resolutions.

Additionally, on March 25, the LMA collaborated with other London market bodies to launch a misconduct training programme. This initiative responds to the Financial Conduct Authority’s focus on workplace culture and aims to provide industry stakeholders with practical tools for ensuring compliance and fostering professional conduct.
