Alps, a specialist managing general agent (MGA) providing insurance add-on policies, legal expenses cover and claims solutions for intermediaries, has appointed Nick Copley (pictured above) as its new head of claims.

Copley has been with Alps for 10 years, working within the litigation team and most recently serving as legal team manager. In his new role, he will be responsible for further developing Alps’ claims service offering, ensuring service delivery to brokers and claimants, and supporting Alps’ claims management and legal service operations.

Alps noted that its claims approach combines handler expertise with investment in proprietary claims technology and ongoing skills development. The company said its processes aim to improve efficiency, manage claim costs and support service delivery to both brokers and claimants.

For the fiscal year ending March 2024, Alps reported 21% growth, exceeding its projected targets. The company said that this increase underscores its robust performance in the insurance add-ons and claims solutions sector.

The company manages all claims in-house, which it says allows them to ensure direct oversight and quality control across its many add-on covers, including motor add-ons, including excess protect, tools in transit, vehicle replacement and road rescue, as well as property add-ons covering landlord excess protect, home emergency, key cover and second property legal expense.

The company also touted that it has achieved notable efficiency in its operations, with over 90% of calls answered within 20 seconds and urgent tasks, such as callbacks and payments, addressed by the end of the business day.

Michelle O’Reilly, managing director at Alps, said Copley’s promotion reflects his experience and the regard in which he is held by the company’s broker partners.

Elsewhere, the company has also introduced a pet damage protection product to its portfolio in response to reforms proposed by the Renters’ Rights Bill. Called “Not for Lions”, it aims to help support landlords meet the provisions of the bill.
