Ecclesiastical Insurance Group has expanded its scheme of giving staff members £125 in personal grants for charity, this time allowing employees at its broker businesses to donate to their chosen causes.
A total of £35,000 from employees of Farmers & Mercantile Insurance Brokers, Lansdown Insurance Brokers,
Lycetts, and SEIB Insurance Brokers will go to charities across the UK. According to Ecclesiastical corporate responsibility manager Chris Pitt, many picked the Alzheimer’s Society, which is running the ‘Insurance United Against Dementia’ campaign in collaboration with the insurance sector.
“We think giving our people the opportunity to donate to causes close to them is a really powerful way to make a difference,” said Pitt. “As a group, we provide funding to major projects to preserve heritage and protect the mental health and wellbeing of young people, but employee-led giving is about supporting a wide range of causes in a small way, which all adds up to make a big impact.”
The campaign by the Alzheimer’s Society, for instance, aims to raise £10 million for dementia research and helping businesses become more dementia-friendly.
Pitt added: “The £35,000 staff at our broker businesses are giving will benefit a wide range of fantastic causes, from health charities to those that support children and young people and animal welfare and rescue services.”
Last year the insurer’s employees gave about £250,000 to good causes through personal grants, as well as matched donations for fundraising and payroll giving.
