It was a rough February in many of the northern areas of England, Wales, and, to a lesser extent, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
A barrage of rain saw the areas suffer floods from February 09-29, and now a loss projection from catastrophe insurance data firm PERILS has put the price tag on that damage at £297 million.
During the period, many areas of the UK suffered record breaking rainfall that saturated the ground and led to river flooding. Most of the rainfall came from the named storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge, with areas around the Humber region, along with the North West and West Midlands, as well as Wales, all heavily impacted. It is estimated that around 4,800 properties suffered damage.
It is believed the losses from this event are the largest for a flood catastrophe in the UK since the winter floods back in December 2015 – they set the industry back by £1.1 billion.
A further update will be provided by the end of May.
