Flood defence firm IBS Engineered Products Ltd is taking part in the £30 million flood alleviation scheme (FAS) in Mytholmroyd.
Tapped to supply a temporary flood barrier along a stretch of the River Calder while the permanent FAS is being constructed, IBS is providing its ‘K-System’ – a mobile installation that does not require permanent fixings and affords protection against floods as high as 1.3m.
“The Mytholmroyd project is the perfect showcase for the company’s K-System, being both fast and easy to install,” commented IBS managing director Ray Moulds. “It can also be used flexibly at different locations according to flood risk, accommodating surface unevenness (up to 15mm), curves in the defence line, height differences (up to 190mm), and slopes along the length of the barrier.”
Aimed at protecting up to 400 homes and businesses, the FAS has been developed by the Environment Agency in partnership with Calderdale Council. It is being delivered by VBA, a joint venture comprising VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster, and SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business.
The multi-million pound project will see the construction and raising of existing walls on the banks of the River Calder and Cragg Brook; the strengthening of buildings on both banks; improvements made to the culvert on White Lee Clough; the widening of the channel on the River Calder; as well as enhancements to bridge structures.
Expected completion is in 2019.
