Zurich UK is adding a new post to its executive team and has also appointed a replacement chief operating officer effective July 01.
Current UK COO John Keppel (pictured above), who is set to become the unit’s chief sustainability officer, will be succeeded by chief data officer Anita Fernqvist (pictured below). The move is in line with the insurer’s business strategy, at the core of which is sustainability.
“I’m really excited to lead our journey to becoming one of the most responsible and impactful companies in the world,” said Keppel. “We’ve made strong progress over the last few years, but there is so much more to be done.
“Creating this new role demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, and I am so proud to be the one to take the lead and demonstrate this commitment in practice.”
His successor, who made the switch from IBM to Zurich 17 years ago, is joining the UK executive team to be in charge of the business’ digital, data, operations, and IT strategy, as well as its continual response to technological advancement.
“Having lived and breathed operations for a number of years, I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to lead such a brilliant team,” commented Fernqvist.
“I have always been passionate about data and technology, and this role will allow me to enjoy the best of both worlds. I very much look forward to the next stage of the journey in which we seek to build on the great momentum already in place.”
Meanwhile UK chief executive Tim Bailey described the duo as “hugely valued and talented,” adding that he was very pleased to see Zurich’s internal talent and succession plans come to life.
