The remit of Zurich Insurance Group’s Benelux chief executive Dirk De Nil has widened, with the company stalwart now also Nordics CEO.
“The Nordics – comprising Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland – represent an important business to Zurich, where the group supports local companies in managing their risks as well as servicing international customers that operate in the region,” said the firm in a release.
De Nil, who came onboard the Swiss insurer in 2008 in Hong Kong where he served as chief operating officer for the Asia-Pacific region, has been Zurich’s Benelux boss since February 2018. He held other leadership posts before moving to Morocco in 2014.
Expanding his management responsibility in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, De Nil is succeeding David Haak, who will take on the position of strategic advisor to the EMEA leadership team with immediate effect.
Zurich noted: “Mr De Nil is a well-known and respected professional with a proven track record across several continents. With his broad range of experience, market knowledge, and history within Zurich, he is well-positioned to lead our business in the Nordics countries and take us to the next level.”
Meanwhile Haak, who became CEO of Nordics in 2013, first joined in Sweden in 2004. After nearly five years, he made the switch to Guy Carpenter before returning to Zurich in 2010 in his capacity as Sweden country manager.
In his new role as strategic advisor, Haak will leverage his extensive experience and relationships with customers and brokers to not only help strengthen and grow Zurich’s existing business but also explore new market opportunities.
