Global insurer XL Catlin has strengthened its international energy team with the hiring of four senior executives that include two veterans in the UK insurance industry.
The company has appointed Denise Dass-Hewitt as a risk engineer in the London office. She has more than 35 years of experience with major North Sea operators, previously serving as vice president for development at BG Group.
In her recent role, Dass-Hewitt was responsible for all operational aspects of the appraisal, concept selection and developments of the BG Brazil discoveries.
Dass-Hewitt also held many senior engineering roles at Enterprise Oi, Repsol Exploration, Goal Petroleum and Arco British Limited.
XL Catlin has also appointed Helen Watkinson as underwriting manager in the Paris office. The 10-year industry veteran previously worked at
Munich Re and
Liberty Specialty Markets in London and in Paris as a senior underwriter.
In the Americas, XL Catlin has hired Wayne Jacobson as director of energy liability and Joseph Tina as underwriter for energy liability. Both of them will be based in New York.
Jacobson joins from Colony Specialty Insurance Company where he served as vice President of the oil and gas division. The 40-year veteran has held senior positions at several leading insurers.
Tina, an eight-year veteran in the energy insurance sector, joins from Colony Specialty where he worked as senior underwriter, leading the oil and gas division.
Commenting on the new hires, XL Catlin global head of energy Huw Jones expressed confidence that the company has attracted the best talent in risk engineering and underwriting.
“The need for intelligent and flexible underwriting decisions, backed up by first-class engineering capability, is stronger than ever and as such I am delighted to have attracted these high-calibre colleagues to join our global team,” Jones said.
“With our expanded talent base, a strong balance sheet and meaningful capacity, we can address both the traditional and emerging complex risks of our clients around the world.”
