WTW risk & broking president Lucy Clarke (pictured) has been elected as the 2024-25 president of the Insurance Institute of London (IIL), making her the first woman to hold the position in IIL’s 117-year history.

Clarke brings more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry to the post. Her credentials include time spent as president of specialty & global placement at Marsh, as well as 17 years with the JLT Group where she was chief executive of JLT Global Specialty.

At IIL, Clarke served as deputy president from 2022 to 2024.

Reflecting on her election, Clarke said: “I am delighted to be president of the Insurance Institute of London and appreciate the opportunity to serve its people and support its vital work. I would like to thank the Institute’s members for electing me and thank Dominick Hoare for his excellent leadership.”

She added: “We are living in one of the most rapid and radical periods of change and progress in human history, one which promises a wealth of unprecedented advancements but also some daunting challenges.

“The Institute’s role in cultivating ongoing knowledge and raising the standard of professionalism in our industry has never been more important. These are consequential times for our clients, and we must ensure that we are ready to support them as they face increasingly complex risk landscapes.”

Clarke has been risk & broking president at WTW since July.

“I’ve admired the company for many years, including the work that has been done in risk & broking to focus on specialisation and the progress that has been made on digitisation,” Clarke commented when she came on board. “I’m very excited to join my new colleagues as we work together to drive a relentlessly client-focussed strategy.”
