Brokerage giant Willis Towers Watson has relocated from 1 and 2 Wellington Place to two floors of the new 5 Wellington Place in Leeds – expanding office occupancy to 26,500sq ft to accommodate all teams in one building.

According to GVA’s Big Nine report – a quarterly update of regional office activity – the move is among this year’s largest city centre deals in the UK. It coincides with the growth of Willis Towers Watson’s operations in Leeds, from 80 employees to 245.

“After significant growth of our business in Leeds I was delighted that [commercial property developer and asset manager] MEPC could accommodate our expansion into newly completed 5 Wellington Place,” commented Slavica Sedlan, managing consultant at Willis Towers Watson.

Sedlan added: “Since making the move a little over a week ago, we have already seen a great response to our new space from clients and a huge buzz in the office as our staff embrace their new workplace.” Willis Towers Watson occupied the 1 and 2 Wellington Place offices for over 15 years.

For the bigger 5 Wellington Place office, CBRE’s Leeds Building Consultancy team oversaw a fit out executed by office design company Claremont. More than 80% of the interiors were manufactured in Yorkshire.

MEPC chief executive James Dipple said: “We’ve worked hard to create the ideal office space, community, and environment for our customers, so I’m really pleased to see Willis Towers Watson has decided to expand at Wellington Place and have settled in with such ease to their new home.”

Sustainable business community Wellington Place will have a total of 1.5 million sq ft of commercial, retail, leisure, and residential space once completed. Already completed buildings are 1, 2, 5, 6, and 10 Wellington Place – with 3 Wellington Place the next phase due to be completed in December.
