The insurance sector must address the interconnected challenges of decarbonisation, digitalisation, and diversity to remain relevant and resilient in the years ahead, according to Dame Inga Beale (pictured above), a member of the Crawford board.

Speaking ahead of the Crawford Technical Claims Forum, titled “The Future is Now,” Beale highlighted the need for a unified approach to tackle these priorities effectively.

“Decarbonisation efforts, the digitalisation of claims processes, and a commitment to diversity are not separate issues,” Beale said.

She explained that these challenges should not be seen in isolation but rather as interconnected strategies that can enhance the resilience of the industry while also making a broader societal impact.

Beale emphasised the importance of progress across all three areas, urging the industry to support global decarbonisation efforts, accelerate the digital transformation of claims management, and foster diversity in workforces to develop innovative insurance solutions.

However, she acknowledged the complexity of the decisions that organisations face.

“Organisations are constantly having to make huge decisions. Choose the right direction, and we will secure our futures for years to come; take the wrong path, and our future could be in doubt,” Beale said.

Andrew Bart, CEO of International Operations at Crawford, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the pivotal role the insurance industry plays in society.

“The insurance sector has a critical societal role. It provides the financial security that enables organisations to innovate and transform, and the financial support that helps restore lives, businesses, and communities. Our industry must acknowledge this role and fulfil it to the best of our ability,” Bart said.

The Crawford Technical Claims Forum, taking place in London on November 20, features panel discussions addressing key issues impacting the insurance industry.

Topics will include artificial intelligence, sustainability, climate change, renewable energy, and talent development. The event will bring together experts from Crawford and other industry leaders to explore strategies for navigating these critical challenges.
