Ahead of Skyrisks Limited’s imminent launch as a managing general agent, the newly incorporated firm has announced its insurance partner and chief executive.
Set up to cater to the advanced air mobility (AAM) sector, Skyrisks will be led by CEO Alistair Blundy and backed by specialty (re)insurer Convex Group. Blundy, a specialist aviation underwriter, will take on the top post at Skyrisks upon his completion at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty.
“Tackling the enormous challenges of sustainability and safety in aviation are among the greatest responsibilities of the insurance market,” said Convex aerospace head Michael Hansen in an emailed release. “It will take a data-driven specialist such as Skyrisks to underwrite the risk from the ground up with coverages tailored for the needs of the AAM ecosystem.”
AAM spans the likes of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and related technology.
“The vast majority of AAM aircraft are zero-emission and exceptionally versatile, providing a cleaner, faster, quieter, and more affordable alternative to conventional platforms,” noted Blundy. “Skyrisks is committed to driving global sustainability action in aviation, which today accounts for 2% of global emissions.”
No timeline was provided, but Skyrisks is said to be launching “soon” as an MGA specifically designed for AAM businesses whose insurance needs include hull all risks; third-party liability; passenger & crew liability; and premises, products & hangar-keepers liability.
Skyrisks, based in London, was incorporated in January under the laws of England and Wales.
