Last week we told you about a bride-to-be’s biggest regret – not having wedding insurance – after the supposed
venue went into liquidation. Now here’s another event which didn’t have coverage and this time ended even more tragically - causing the blindness of an 11-year-old boy.
A report by the
Daily Mail claims that Tyler Norris-Sayers will need lengthy reconstructive and stem cell surgery following an accident at an uninsured public fireworks display. The
Lancashire event was held by Rosegrove Railway Club.
While the railway club was found liable by Lancashire County Council, solicitors of the family have now been told the victim – whose right eye suffered burns after a firework tipped over and flew into spectators – will not be compensated.
“If I’m earning £900-a-month working part time and it costs £400 for a one night stay for us and to get down there [London] – then how am I going to manage more?” said the child’s mother, Nicola, as quoted by the report.
Her solicitors are now looking into other options. Meanwhile, doctors at Queen Victoria Hospital in West Sussex have offered to save the boy’s eyesight for free.
The mother was quoted as saying: “They haven’t made any promises to us but they are going to do all they can to restore his sight, but we know it is going to take a long time.”
According to the report, a 60-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were also injured during the uninsured event last November.
