Tony Knight (pictured), managing director of Knightsure Insurance Brokers, is marking a significant milestone in his career, having dedicated 55 years to the insurance industry.
Knight, one of the most experienced brokers in the country, has worked across several notable organisations and continues to provide expert advice to clients. He currently leads Knightsure Insurance Brokers, which became part of the JM Glendinning Group in early 2023.
Knight began his insurance career in 1969, joining the West Midlands Gas Board’s insurance department straight from school. After two years, he transitioned to legal and general and later relocated to the Isle of Wight, where he joined Zurich Insurance. There, Knight completed his Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and was promoted to lead a team of 35.
In 1990, Tony and his wife, Linda, founded Knightsure Insurance Brokers in Southampton. Over the years, the company has built a reputation for helping clients mitigate risks through tailored insurance policies. More recently, Knight has focused on cyber insurance, a growing area of concern for many businesses.
Reflecting on his five decades in the industry, Knight remarked: “Working in the insurance industry has been a rewarding career choice in so many ways. Much has changed over the years, but I still get a buzz out of talking with clients, getting to know their businesses, and understanding the details of the cover that they require.”
Since Knightsure joined the JM Glendinning Group, the business has seen substantial growth, expanding by 30%, according to a news release. Knight attributed this success to the support of the broader group and his dedicated team.
JM Glendinning managing director Jake Fox praised Knight’s dedication and adaptability: “Tony is a consummate insurance professional. He constantly pushes himself out of his comfort zone to know and understand emerging risks so that he can deliver the best cover for those who come to him.”
The JM Glendinning Group, established in 2020, has grown to become one of the top 35 UK insurance brokers, with over 600 employees across 31 offices. Through strategic acquisitions and organic growth, the group places over £300 million in premiums annually, serving a diverse range of clients.
