Specialist insurer Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has strengthened its special risks division with the hiring of underwriter Gary Burke.

Burke will join the Lloyd’s insurer in its London office and will focus on trade credit and political risks.

“Gary joins us at an important time, as demand for covering these risks continues to climb,” said Peter Merton, departmental head of marine, aviation and special risks at TMK.

“He becomes part of a select team who have a great mix of skills that are driving the development of this growing market sector,” Merton added.

Burke comes from AIG where he was a trade credit underwriter for nearly six years. His achievements include holding multimillion single line authority and aggregate authority.

At AIG, Burke acted as co-underwriter on the second highest premium generator within the insurer’s trade credit department.

Before working at AIG, Burke served as an assistant risk underwriter on the electronics team of Euler Hermes.
