After five years of successful campaigns, The Insurance Emporium has announced that it is waving goodbye to its mascot, Mr Benn.
“The Insurance Emporium provide insurance for the things you love, from pets, horses and caravans, to golf, fishing and camera equipment, even for when you need to pack off your loved ones to uni. So, with Mr Benn being a national figure of inclusivity with a thirst for adventures, he was the perfect partner to share our personalised insurance products,” said The Insurance Emporium chief commerce officer Maryline Jardin.
Jardin added that Mr Benn has been the focus of The Insurance Emporium brand since the company’s launch by E&L insurance in January 2017, but “now it’s time for a refresh to appeal to an ever-changing audience.”
Mr Benn is the eponymous hero of David McKee’s children’s book, Mr Benn Red Knight, which was first published in 1967. Three more books were published following the same character and his visits to a costume shop, where the outfits lead Mr Benn on fantastic adventures. These books went on to form the basis for a BBC animated TV series in the 70s.
To send off Mr Benn in style, The Insurance Emporium has started a campaign explaining that the character is off on “a little golfing adventure.” As part of the promotion, the insurer is giving one lucky pair the opportunity to enjoy the same experience through a social media competition. More details about the contest and how to join can be found on the insurer’s Facebook page.
“He had such a great time, we couldn’t let his fun stop there. So, we now feel it’s time for Mr Benn to enjoy his adventures further afield, safe in the knowledge that he’s protected by our insurance policies – of course!” said Jardin.
The Insurance Emporium will hold a special send-off party celebrating the well-travelled Mr Benn at the end of June. During the event, a lucky social media contestant will be drawn from among the entries collected. The winner will receive a £350 “Last Minute” holiday gift card towards their own holiday getaway, a company release said.
