Swinton, which is now owned by The Ardonagh Group, has closed another office.
The latest to get the axe was the Bevan Street East branch in Lowestoft, according to an Eastern Daily Press report. With the closure came the exit of six employees.
“More than 80% of insurance customers choose to purchase their policies online and as a result we are further reshaping our branch network to reflect the way customers now prefer to interact with us,” the report quoted a Swinton spokesperson as saying yesterday while confirming the ‘unfortunate’ redundancies.
With a current workforce of about 1,500 people, the personal lines brokerage announced more than 200 branch closures in 2016-2017 alone. It, however, has offered an assurance that affected workers are being deployed into other parts of the business where possible.
“These changes are part of our long-term plan to transform Swinton into the UK’s number one digital insurance broker,” added Swinton in this week’s statement.
As Insurance Business reported last month, Swinton was snapped up from French mutual insurance group Covéa for £165 million.
