AXA’s board of directors has appointed Ewout Steenbergen to replace Rachel Duan as a director. Duan, who has served on the board for six years, announced her intention to step down on August 1, 2024. Her resignation will take effect at the end of the year.
According to a news release, Steenbergen will assume the role on January 1, 2025, following a recommendation by AXA’s Compensation, Governance & Sustainability Committee. The appointment will extend until the 2026 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting and will be proposed for ratification at the company’s 2025 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting.
In a statement, Antoine Gosset-Grainville, chairman of AXA’s board of directors, thanked Duan for her contributions. “On behalf of AXA’s board of directors, I would like to address our warmest thanks to Rachel Duan for her many valuable contributions to the AXA board over the past six years. Her international business experience and her deep insights on China and Asia were of great value to the AXA board and to the group,” he said.
Gosset-Grainville also welcomed Steenbergen: “I would also like to welcome to our board Ewout Steenbergen. I am delighted that our board may benefit from his very good knowledge of insurance and his strong international exposure.”
Steenbergen currently serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Booking Holdings Inc., a role he assumed in March 2024. He previously held prominent positions, including CFO at S&P Global Inc., where he also led Engineering Solutions and Kensho Technologies. Before that, he served as CFO of Voya Financial, Inc. and has extensive experience in financial services. Additionally, Steenbergen is a member of UNICEF USA’s board of directors.
