Specialty MGA UK has expanded its expertise and global reach by appointing Jonathan Wingett as senior underwriter for agriculture.
Wingett is an experienced reinsurance underwriter and broker with over 40 years in the industry. His career includes significant time in Asia, including Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, where he established an agriculture practice with Asia Capital Reinsurance (ACR) and formed the Asia Agriculture Pool to write agriculture reinsurance globally.
Wingett's experience also spans work in Kuwait with Al Fajer Re, the country’s first licensed Retakaful company, and in Cyprus with Alliance Re, where he managed underwriting operations on the non-marine treaty account. His expertise includes writing risks for agricultural clients worldwide, from small growers to international corporations.
Manoj Kumar, group CEO of Specialty MGA UK, noted the increasing importance of the insurance and reinsurance sectors in mitigating risks faced by the agricultural sector due to climate change.
“I am therefore thrilled to be adding a world-leading expert in the industry to our team,” Kumar said. “Jonathan has a breadth of experience and a global network of brokers, agents and insurers from across Asia, the Middle East and Europe, greatly benefiting our MGA’s continued expansion.”
In his new role, Wingett will underwrite the agricultural portfolio at Specialty MGA UK, managing proportional and non-proportional treaties covering crop and livestock.
Wingett remarked on the growth of agricultural insurance into a multibillion-pound class of business and his excitement about joining Specialty MGA UK’s growth plans.
“The importance the Specialty MGA UK team places on providing unique and innovative solutions to hard-to-place risks coupled with our deep knowledge of our clients’ sectors places us in a great position to grow rapidly in the coming years,” Wingett said.
Elsewhere for the firm, Specialty MGA UK has also announced the appointment of Victor Navarro as senior vice president to bolster its operations in Latin America.
