Commercial and consumer property & casualty re/insurance provider Sompo International has expanded in the UK, opening its first office in the country that isn’t in the capital.
Sompo International, which has premises at Minster Court in London, now has a regional office in Birmingham as part of growing the company. Leading the new location are retail property vice president Matt Cullen and retail casualty VP Kevin Green.
“This is a significant step forwards in creating a local presence outside of London and the latest stage in the growth of our UK regional portfolio,” said global markets property retail head Richard Brown when the new office was unveiled.
“Initially our focus will be on writing property & casualty business, but with the potential for more lines to be added as the office grows. Having greater proximity to our clients and brokers in the UK regions will enhance our ability to understand their needs and deliver them the right solutions.”
According to Brown, the expansion will mean access to local underwriters who have direct knowledge and experience of their markets.
He added: “We will target UK-domiciled mono-national and multinational clients with turnover in excess of £100 million in sectors including manufacturing, leisure & hospitality, retail, infrastructure, and transport.”
