Sompo expands into Manchester

International insurer Sompo has opened an office in Manchester.

The company, which provides commercial and consumer property and casualty (re)insurance globally, announced that its base in the city is located at 10th floor, 3 Hardman Street, Spinningfields, Manchester M3 3HF.

The new premises add to Sompo’s existing UK offices in Birmingham and London.

“I am delighted we now have a base in Manchester,” Sompo UK commercial P&C insurance chief executive Bob Thaker (pictured) commented.

“The launch of this important regional hub will enable us to work even more closely with our clients and broker partners in the north of the UK as we continue to execute our UK commercial lines growth plans outside the London market.”

The British expansion comes on the heels of Sompo’s appointment of London-based Allan Murley as head of UK insurance distribution.

“Allan is a well-known and highly respected insurance professional with a proven track record of success over many years,” Thaker noted in June.

“His experience, acumen, and understanding of the market, combined with outstanding leadership skills, will help us drive momentum across Sompo’s business in the UK and support our ambitions for continued profitable growth.”

Previously, Murley served as AXA XL’s head of UK broker management. He also spent 14 years at Zurich.

Outside the UK, Sompo recently hired Christoph Müller as country manager for insurance in Switzerland. He made the switch from Allianz.

“Christoph is an outstanding insurance professional with exceptional leadership skills and a proven track record of success across two decades,” Ralph Brand, president of Continental Europe insurance at Sompo, said earlier this month.

“His deep market knowledge and insights, both locally and internationally, make him perfectly placed to further continue the growth of Sompo’s business in Switzerland, and I look forward to working closely with him.”
