“We have no choice but to close the doors for the foreseeable future.”
Those were the words of Patchway Sports and Social Club in Bristol in an online statement announcing its closure amid a lack of coverage for its premises. It was noted that the policy for the building used by the club within Norman Scott Park had lapsed.
Addressed to its members, the club’s announcement is no longer accessible, as the social media accounts linked to Patchway Sports and Social Club are now not active.
Meanwhile a Patchway Town Council spokesperson was cited by a BBC report as saying: “The club cannot operate legally without insurance. Patchway Sports and Social Club confirmed it would close the building with immediate effect due to the severe breach of this lease agreement.
“This decision wasn’t taken lightly. Patchway Town Council has expressed the need to consult all membership of the club is of paramount importance and should be done imminently. Members will be informed of a ballot process to consider the future of the club.”
The council added that it is “deeply disappointed at the situation” and remains committed to the community asset.
No further explanations were provided for the insurance lapse.
