Independent broker Smith Greenfield has appointed Andrew Cross (pictured) as chair, who brings to the table more than just leadership experience.
Known for growing businesses in the High Net Worth (HNW) insurance sector, the new chair has invested an undisclosed amount in Smith Greenfield and is now a minority shareholder. Founder and also current chair of the Somerville Group, Cross was central to the creation, growth, and sale of Plum Underwriting. He was also in charge of transforming Oak Underwriting, as former owner and chair, into a high-value insurance provider.
“In Andrew Cross we have found an experienced investor and chairman who will guide and support us in achieving our strategic vision,” said chief executive Steve Smith.
Cross, meanwhile, commented that he has always admired Smith Greenfield’s professional and innovative culture and is delighted to be working with Smith and his team in growing the company.
“Smith Greenfield is forward thinking and has developed cutting-edge ideas and initiatives that look like a real solution to the changing distribution challenge within the insurance market,” he said. “I will use my experience to help the business build on these fantastic foundations.”
The Surrey-headquartered firm specialises in high-value household and corporate insurance and also works with wealth managers. Its private client business provides coverage for the likes of antiques, jewellery, UK and overseas property, and yachts.
“Smith Greenfield has ambitious growth plans to double in the size over the next two years,” noted Smith. “Our private client business is thriving and we have successfully established the Confidas brand as a product of choice for the HNW and MNW intermediary market.
“With new investment and the added expertise that Andrew brings to the team, we can accelerate our plans to expand operations and develop the business.”
