There will soon be a new man at the helm of Saga Group.
The over-50s specialist has this morning revealed that Euan Sutherland (pictured), most recently the CEO of Superdry plc, the global digital brand, will assume the role from January 06 next year. His appointment comes shortly after the announcement that Lance Batchelor would be retiring, continuing in the role of statutory director before leaving the business on January 31.
In announcing Sutherland’s arrival, Saga pointed to his “substantial experience” leading customer-facing businesses – noting a number of financial services roles including previously being the group CEO of The Co-op Group. During this time, he is said to have led a “significant transformation programme” at the mutual retailer and insurance services business.
“I am hugely excited to join Saga,” Sutherland said. “This is a unique British brand that has a strong heritage, great people and significant potential. I look forward to working with the board and the whole of the Saga team to further unlock this potential and deliver for our customers and shareholders.”
Other roles held by Sutherland in the past include being group COO and CEO UK at Kingfisher Plc, as well as working at the likes of Coca-Cola and Mars early in his career. He is also a non-executive director at Britvic Plc.
“I am very pleased that Euan is joining Saga at this important time in the development of the business,” said Saga chairman Patrick O’Sullivan. “He has substantial experience across several consumer-facing businesses that will be invaluable as we continue the Saga transformation, with our customers at the heart of our strategy.”
Sutherland does not currently have any interest in shares in Saga.
