In a historic shift, Russell Scanlan, a chartered insurance broker established in 1881, has moved its headquarters from Nottingham’s Wellington Circus to Grove House in West Bridgford. This relocation marks the first time the company will operate outside Nottingham city centre.
A news release noted that the decision to move follows a period of significant changes, including Russell Scanlan’s acquisition by global insurance business Acrisure in 2022 and its recent acquisition of Leicester-based Building & Land Guarantees Ltd. (BLG), which specialises in construction insurance. The new West Bridgford office is expected to accommodate the company’s growth and provide space for future expansion.
“The business has continued to experience a significant period of growth,” said Mike Dickinson, managing director of Russell Scanlan. “This is a great time for us to begin a new chapter in our West Bridgford home. It’s certainly bittersweet for us – we have a long and illustrious history at Wellington Circus, neighbours to our client and business partners at the Nottingham Playhouse. But we’re looking forward to the next step in our history, where we can expand our business, our team and our partnerships in a new space designed around our needs.”
Founded in Nottingham by Irish entrepreneur Patrick Scanlan and later joined by businessman Henry Russell, Russell Scanlan has been a key business in Nottingham and the East Midlands for over a century. Its early clients included major Nottingham institutions like Boots the Chemists, and it has maintained longstanding partnerships, including one with Trent Bridge, home of the Nottingham Cricket Club.
Russell Scanlan holds chartered status from the Chartered Insurance Institute, one of only a few brokers in the East Midlands to receive this recognition.
