RSA Insurance has announced that it has signed the Armed Forces Covenant – a government-backed scheme that advocates for the unique needs of the Armed Forces community.
Signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant must create environments in which all that serve, have served, and/or have family members serving in the military are understood, treated fairly, and supported to thrive.
The addition of RSA as a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant coincides with the insurer’s launch of a new RSA Armed Forces Employee Resource Group (ERG). Co-chaired by Royal Corps of Signals Army Reservist Lieutenant Ian Dawes and military veteran Victoria Bauling (who served six years in the Army Intelligence Corps as both a Regular and Reservist), the ERG is an open group for all those affiliated with the Armed Forces and for those interested in the challenges the community faces.
“We’re delighted to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which acts as an important conduit between the civilian and military spheres,” said Dawes. “It marks a significant milestone in our understanding of this extended community and recognises the extraordinary contribution of those involved in military duty.”
Dawes added that by signing the Covenant, RSA is proving its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community and ensuring the company has “the right people in place to create ongoing guidance and policy for families, partners, veterans, and those serving.”
“When an organisation commits to signing the Armed Forces Covenant it speaks volumes about the value they attach to the skills, experience and character that members of the Armed Forces community can bring to their organisation,” said Armed Forces Covenant chief executive Peter Germain.
A release said that the RSA Armed Forces ERG will lead in internal policy development and guidance, creating recruitment practices, and championing the causes and needs of Armed Forces affiliated colleagues.
Last week, RSA introduced a new policy for its employees who take care of disabled dependents. Under the new policy, employees with disabled dependents are entitled to five more days of paid leave per calendar year.
