Melanie Lopes has joined QBE Re in Bermuda as assistant vice president, lead treaty underwriter.
Making the switch from SiriusPoint, Lopes will report to senior vice president David Cary. The latter serves as underwriting manager and head of property and casualty Bermuda.
“Mel is part of the continued expansion of the Bermuda office and QBE Re as a whole,” noted QBE Re Bermuda head Tracey Gibbons, who was appointed last September.
“We are building the team and the product offering to be able to provide our brokers and clients with the support they need across multiple classes with best-in-class underwriters. We would like to welcome Mel to QBE Re and are thrilled to have her join our growing team.”
In 2021, the business also added Greg van der Made and Lauritz Schwarz as treaty underwriter and underwriting assistant, respectively.
Lopes, meanwhile, most recently served as assistant vice president and property underwriter. Prior to the merger of Third Point Re and Sirius International Insurance Group, she held the position of assistant vice president for specialty underwriting.
