QBE has nominated Mario Díaz-Guardamino (pictured above) as the new managing director for QBE Iberia, subject to regulatory approval.

With over 20 years of experience in financial services, Díaz-Guardamino’s background spans roles as a broker and underwriter, including credit lines underwriting at AIG Spain and later as head of EMEA trade credit insurance. His expertise encompasses specialty underwriting, business development, and broker and customer distribution strategies.

In his new role, Díaz-Guardamino will lead QBE’s operations across Spain, overseeing teams in Madrid and Barcelona. His focus will be on achieving profitable growth through deep industry expertise, enhanced service delivery, and strengthening relationships with brokers and clients.

He will concentrate on key areas such as the corporate and middle market sectors, multinational programmes, construction, and sustainable energy initiatives.

Beatriz Valenti, director of insurance for QBE Europe, welcomed Díaz-Guardamino’s appointment, highlighting his experience and leadership.

“His experience, market knowledge, leadership abilities as well as national and international track record will be essential in strengthening our position in the Spanish and Portuguese markets. and leading the extraordinary team that makes up QBE Iberia,” Valenti said.

Valenti added that under his leadership, QBE Iberia is expected to continue driving innovation, developing new insurance propositions, and maintaining its commitment to delivering high-quality service to brokers and clients.

In a separate announcement today, QBE has expanded its regional footprint with the opening of a new office in Leeds, underscoring the company’s commitment to strengthening its regional broker strategy.

The new office, located at West Village on Wellington Street, represents a £3.6 million investment aimed at boosting QBE’s presence in the Yorkshire market.

Jason Harris, chief executive of QBE International, noted that the move to Leeds aligns with the company’s broader objectives of sustainability, modernisation, and employee wellbeing.

Harris stated that the new office reflects QBE’s commitment to providing modern and sustainable work environments for its staff, while also positioning the company to better serve brokers and clients in the region.
