Pool Re has appointed Howard Cheetham as head of distribution amid low terrorism insurance penetration among SMEs and outside major urban centres.
Steve Coates, chief underwriting officer at Pool Re, said a key pillar in its strategy is to ensure that every business in the UK is aware of, and has access to, terrorism cover and that Cheetham’s appointment represents the next stage of the strategy.
“He is recognised and respected across our market and is the ideal candidate to work with our stakeholders to realise our goal of increasing the uptake of terrorism insurance, particularly among SMEs,” said Coates.
Cheetham, who has over 30 years of reinsurance experience, began his career with
Sedgwick Group where he served in a series of roles including executive director.
He joined Leslie and Godwin in 1986 as managing director and chairman of services, and was also managing director for
Aon Re Japan. In 2006, Cheetham joined Flagstone Re as CEO UK and global business.
Pool Re’s new head of distribution also serves as chairman of EC3 Insurance Brokers.
