Long-term savings and retirement business Phoenix Group has appointed Cecile Retaureau as head of private markets. In her role, Retaureau will oversee a team of 16 investment professionals specialising in real estate, infrastructure, public finance, corporate credit, and private equity.

Retaureau’s responsibilities will include leading Phoenix’s internal origination efforts and collaborating with top-tier asset management partners to secure private market assets that align with the company’s liabilities while maximising returns.

Bringing nearly two decades of experience, Retaureau will join Phoenix from UBS where she served as managing director and global head of cross-asset financing and fixed income solutions sales. At UBS, she managed over 30 investment banking professionals and oversaw 400 clients worldwide. Her credentials also include senior positions in global markets at BNP Paribas and Credit Agricole.

Retaureau is set to start at Phoenix in August, reporting to shareholder assets head Nuwan Goonetilleke.

Commenting on her upcoming role, Retaureau said: “I am extremely excited to be joining Phoenix Group at such an important time for its asset management team.

“Phoenix’s brilliant in-house team alongside its unique origination model and ability to work with best-in-class partners will allow us to find the best possible opportunities in the market, and continue to deliver for our customers and shareholders, while also meeting Phoenix’s commitments to climate and achieving its net zero targets.”

Meanwhile Goonetilleke had this to say: “We are delighted to be welcoming Cecile as our new head of private markets at a pivotal time for our asset management growth strategy, as we look to expand our direct origination capabilities while also working with our best-in-class asset management partners to deliver optimal returns for our customers.

“As our retirement solutions and pensions and savings businesses continue to thrive, Cecile will be integral to ensuring that we develop our sourcing, origination, and execution of private market assets.”
