Pen Underwriting has expanded its technical expertise in the Midlands with a new senior hire from a major insurance firm.
James Palmer has been appointed as senior underwriter who will work within Pen’s risk management-led commercial business.
In his new role, Palmer will focus on driving growth through underwriting new business with the company’s select panel of Midlands-based brokers.
Palmer will work closely with commercial division underwriting director Stewart Gardiner and Midlands and South regional director Nick Milton.
“We are always looking for trading underwriters who want to use their knowledge and expertise to find ways to get something done, rather than list reasons why it can’t,” Gardiner said, commenting on the latest appointment.
“We’re here to help brokers win and retain business — and James’ wealth of experience enhances our ability to do that in the Midlands,” he added.
Bringing over 20 years of industry experience, Palmer joins from
Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, where he was senior development underwriter.
Palmer also spent several years at
AXA as a development underwriter and held underwriting roles at
Ecclesiastical,
QBE and
RSA.
“He has a fantastic reputation in the local market and great experience in developing new broker accounts,” Milton said of Palmer.
