Pen Underwriting (Pen) has launched a new regional claims hub in Chelmsford and made senior hires as part of the new hub.
The new claims hub in Chelmsford is dedicated to managing commercial property and liability claims, complementing Pen’s existing team of specialists in Manchester.
As part of the new hub’s launch, Simon Jenkinson has joined Pen as technical claims team leader for liability. He has 20 years of experience as a complex and large loss practitioner managing and settling a diverse range of claims – from employers’ liability (EL) and public liability (PL) to product recall and medical malpractice. He joined Pen from MS Amlin, where he spent 17 years, including six years on the complex and large loss team as a casualty adjuster.
In his new role, Jenkinson will lead Pen’s technical capabilities and strategy in the liability team, including policy indemnity, team training, strategic negotiation, and claims resolution.
Annahita “Anna” Mansourpour took up the role of technical claims team leader for property, bringing over 10 years of experience in claims management as a technical specialist. She began her insurance career as a major loss graduate at Cunningham Lindsey in 2009 and eventually spent seven years at Aviva. She joined Pen from Verisk’s insurance solutions division.
She has a strong blend of credentials to lead Pen’s team of property claims technical specialists, thanks to her experience as a case manager in technical claims services, working on high-value commercial property claims, including global corporate and property portfolios, combined with her skills in claims handler training, product ownership, analytics.
Completing the trio of appointments, Paul Clayton joins Pen in the Chelmsford hub as a senior claims handler, specialising in large and complex liability losses. He has more than 20 years of experience in casualty claims and is a graduate of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX). He joined Pen from MS Amlin, where he held a similar role and used his extensive expertise to resolve a broad range of EL and PL claims and those arising from third-party property damage.
Matt Hope, commercial property and liability claims manager at Pen, welcomed the trio to the team.
“We couldn’t be happier that Simon, Anna, and Paul have chosen to join Pen as we move forward with one dedicated team for property and liability claims across two locations,” he said. “Such depth of knowledge and experience across both claims disciplines does not come to market very often, especially from a technical standpoint in dealing with complex claims. They are all fantastic additions to our wider team and will be brilliant support for new joiners as we build out our new hub in Chelmsford and expand the team further in the new year.”
Billy Hinken, claims director at Pen, added: “We recognise that in this competitive market, talent has a choice. That’s why, at Pen, we pour just as much energy into creating an environment that is collaborative and supportive and one where progression is always possible, as we do in offering challenging and rewarding work.
“We know that to get the best claims outcomes for our brokers and their clients; it is not enough to recruit the right skill sets with the right experience. Our colleagues need to share our problem-solving approach and have a real passion for claims – just as Simon, Anna, and Paul do.”
Pen is a multi-class, multi-territory managing general agent (MGA) operating as a virtual insurer. Recently, it rolled out a suite of cyber risk management tools to protect brokers and their clients from cybercrime and entered a strategic partnership with Aviva.
