Specialty MGA Nexus Group has a new independent non-executive director (NED) in the form of English barrister and former AIG chief innovation officer Karen Morris.
The seasoned executive, also an international tax and corporate lawyer, has years of experience in board roles and is particularly proficient in (re)insurance growth and innovation strategy. Morris has provided expert advice to WR Berkley Inc and the Hyperion Group, as well as holding several positions at Chubb including senior vice president for Southern Europe.
At Nexus, the Prudential Regulatory Authority and Financial Conduct Authority approved leader will be focussing on underwriting operations. Describing the managing general agent as “a sustainable, modern, and agile business,” Morris said she is pleased to be coming onboard and looks forward to bringing her insight.
“My other roles also include a senior fellowship at the Institute for Innovation in Large Organisations, and I would very much like to feature Nexus in the future as an example of innovation in insurance,” added Morris, who also has experience in the academe having served as an adjunct professor in New York and as a visiting lecturer in France and Spain.
Commenting on the appointment, Nexus founder and chief executive Colin Thompson said: “We are delighted to have attracted an expert of Karen’s calibre to join our team on the underwriting side – she is a specialist in innovation strategy and execution and has proven, pragmatic insights for growth strategy. We look forward to benefiting from Karen’s expertise as we continue to expand the business.”
On behalf of 25 underwriting partners, Nexus underwrites 15 specialty products within financial lines, trade credit, accident & health, surety, travel, property, latent defect, marine, and cyber.
