Former Hiscox Europe managing director Marc van der Veer is now part of Nexus Group.
Snapping up the seasoned executive from The Ardonagh Group, where van der Veer served as international chief executive at specialty managing general agent Geo Underwriting, Nexus has tapped him to assume the role of European ventures CEO.
The key arrival is no stranger to the insurance intermediary, having previously provided underwriting capacity to Nexus’s financial and professional lines team while he was at Partner Re and Torus (now StarStone) where he held the positions of wholesale general manager and chief underwriting officer of European specialty, respectively.
“We are very pleased to welcome Marc to the group and are looking forward to working together on this new chapter in our growth story, having successfully worked with him for many years in the past,” commented group chief executive Colin Thompson.
“Marc has extensive knowledge of MGAs and a vast network of relationships in Europe. Coupled with his vision for growth opportunities, this all aligns him very closely with the Nexus ethos as we look to develop our European MGA offering.”
According to the group, van der Veer’s main focus will be on pursuing a buy-and-build strategy for an identified pipeline of niche European specialty MGAs. He will then manage the acquired businesses which will sit within a new Nexus division.
