The name behind one of the most popular internet brands in the UK has joined the board of major insurer Admiral.

Justine Roberts, CEO, owner and co-founder of Mumsnet.com, has been appointed as an independent non-executive director effective June 17, the insurance company has announced.

Roberts’s non-executive post at Admiral is her first blue-chip board appointment, according to a report by The Telegraph.

"I am delighted to have someone joining the Admiral Board as a non-executive director with Justine's experience in interacting with consumers across social media,” said Admiral Group chairman Alastair Lyons.

For more than a decade, Roberts has been responsible for the creation, strategic direction and overall management of Mumsnet, building it into one of the most recognisable websites in the UK.

Roberts’s brainchild has grown into the UK's biggest online network for parents. Her website hosts discussion forums where users share advice and information on various issues including parenting and products.

Mumsnet attracts 19m users per month and has become a business that turns over around £6m a year, The Telegraph reported.

Admiral appointed Roberts to her new role after journalist Lucy Kellaway and marketing specialist Margaret Johnson left the board in April, the report added.
