There is a new man ready to take Markel UK forward as Neil Galjaard is appointed as the company’s divisional managing director by Markel International.
Galjaard will take overall responsibility for the development and growth of the business, which consists of Markel UK, the regional insurance operation, Abbey Tax, the accountants’ fee protection insurer and tax consultancy, and Abbey Legal, the legal expenses insurance and legal advice business.
He brings with him extensive experience having held a host of senior management positions in leading UK-based financial services firms. Recently he led the acquisition of a commercial insurance broker and previously he worked for
Towergate holding positions including CEO of the small business market and executive director of Paymentshield Group.
Speaking about the appointment, Simon Wilson, managing director of Markel’s national markets business, outlined how Galjaard’s experience would be vital to the growth of three units.
“Our three units offer a range of services that are business critical to all commercial organisations,” he said. “Increasingly, customers will want to be able to buy these, and other services, on an integrated basis and through a range of distribution mechanisms. We are delighted to have Neil’s experience in financial services and private equity to lead the senior management team to deliver Markel’s solution to this unmet customer need.”
