Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Oliver Atkin as underwriter to be part of the equine team.
Atkin joins Markel from
MS Amlin where he served as bloodstock and livestock underwriter from 2015. He also did political risk and terrorism underwriting at Ascot for about five years.
“We are thrilled to have Oliver on board,” said Juliet Redfern, Markel’s managing director for equine and livestock. “He is well known in this specialist market, is a driven and ambitious individual, and has a broad responsibility to grow our equine business.”
Markel has been expanding its equine and livestock team, hiring Lynette Brown as livestock underwriter and Emilie Larson as equine underwriting assistant. Both moved from MS Amlin in December 2016.
Last year also saw the launch of the Markel livestock consortium, which offers cover of up to $30 million per location.
“With over 20 years’ experience, Markel is the longest established livestock underwriter in Lloyd’s, giving it a unique perspective and data set on the sector,” said Robert Wells, senior underwriter for global livestock.
