Markel International, the London-based subsidiary of Markel Corporation, has announced the appointment of Jan Pagan (pictured above) as a specialist risk control engineer in its renewable energy team.
Pagan, a trained structural design engineer specializing in turbine components, has over 10 years of experience in the renewable energy sector. He joins Markel from Matthews Daniel, where he led the renewable energy services team and provided consulting and adjusting services to clients across the sector.
He also spent four years as an on and offshore wind mechanical engineer at EDF Energy, where he focused on implementing operation and maintenance procedures, as well reducing operational costs through the use of new technology.
In his new role, Pagan will work closely with Markel’s underwriting and claims teams to provide risk mitigation advice and engineering services to the company’s growing list of clients managing the transition towards net-zero. He will report to Tom Baker, head of renewable energy at Markel International.
“Helping our clients navigate the risks and rewards of the energy transition is a huge privilege and responsibility, and so I’m delighted to welcome Jan to our team,” said Baker. “His significant industry experience will improve our ability to provide clients an enhanced value proposition, with specialist risk mitigation advice, reiterating our leadership capabilities in the renewables market. I am looking forward to seeing the impact that Jan will have on the business and on the clients that we serve.”
News of Pagan’s appointment comes as Markel works on bolstering its renewable energy offering and diversifying its expertise with risk engineering, having made key offshore wind appointments in the middle of 2022.
Earlier this week, Markel also announced two senior appointments aimed at enhancing strategic broker partnerships and driving its growth strategy.
