Markel International has appointed Paul Hutchins (pictured) as a senior underwriter for its warranty and indemnity (W&I) underwriting team.
Hutchins will bring his “considerable experience” in underwriting performance, workflow optimisation, and local law specialisms to his new role, Markel International said. He will allow the W&I team to make more informed decisions for SME transactions up to £/€300 million, in the UK and European Economic Area (EEA). Hutchins will also help manage broker relationships to ensure that a “high level of service and solution-oriented focus” continues to be delivered. He will report to Markel International head of W&I Bryan Dressler.
Prior to joining Markel International, Hutchins spent more than eight years at ANV Global Services. At ANV, he started as an M&A underwriter, then got promoted to senior M&A underwriter. It was during this time that he played a key role in establishing and growing ANV’s UK businesses will supporting its junior members.
“We are delighted to welcome Paul to the W&I team,” said Bryan Dressler. “His deep market insights earned over almost 10 years of W&I underwriting experience are hard to rival and will complement the specialist skillsets of the team. Paul is well-positioned to capitalise on all the resources Markel has to offer as one of the leading company markets dedicated to the W&I SME space in the UK and Europe.”
Dressler added that Hutchins will not only help shape Markel International’s tailored underwriting model, but also ensure that it runs smoothly.
Last week, Markel International named Laura Devoir as underwriter and senior credit analyst, under the company’s London team. Devoir has 23 years of trade credit experience, and had spent time with insurance companies such as Tokio Marine HCC and AIG.
