As part of its strategy to further grow its presence in the livestock industry, Markel International has appointed Ruth Gordon (pictured) as a livestock underwriter.
Gordon will join the company’s livestock underwriting team, where she will be responsible for growing and developing the livestock portfolio of business. She will report to Markel International senior underwriter of global livestock Robert Wells.
Prior to her promotion, Gordon worked in Markel’s equine and livestock claims team for six years. She previously worked at Allianz Insurance for more than seven years, first as an equine customer services agent, later taking the role of small animal claims team leader.
“We are pleased to have Ruth onboard,” commented Robert Wells. “With her experience and expertise in claims, she will bring a new perspective to the underwriting team, while playing an important role in helping to develop Markel International’s livestock account in the coming months and years.”
Wells added that Gordon’s passion for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) will be crucial to Markel, as the company looks into ways to commercially incorporate ESG principles.
“We feel that these are important so we can approach ESG with a long-term and sustainable view,” Wells commented.
Last week, Markel International named Matthew Brooke as war and terrorism underwriter. Brooke joined the company from W/R/B Underwriting, where he started as an operations assistant and was later promoted to underwriter for the political risk and political violence portfolio.
