Specialist insurance firm Markel has expanded its contingency business with three new hires from major property and casualty insurer Travelers.

The company has appointed Alex Clegg as senior underwriter in its personal accident, contingency and entertainment team while Pippa Morris and Anna Beaman have been recruited underwriters in the business.

Clegg and Morris will develop Markel’s film production and media business, writing advertising agency indemnity, commercial producers’ indemnity, ad wraps and film production insurance.

The two will also grow the insurer’s book of package policies while Beaman will focus on building and developing the existing book of contingency business.

Markel International managing director James Leach said Clegg and his team have a proven track record of profitably writing business in the media section of the contingency market.

“This is an area in to which we have been looking to grow for a number of years and these appointments will certainly strengthen our offering in this market,” Leach said.

“We are excited to have the three of them on-board, to grow our contingency book and to strengthen our film production and media offering.”

The trio join from Travelers, where Clegg spent 19 years, most recently as product manager in the media and entertainment division.

Morris was previously senior underwriter for Travelers’ media and entertainment portfolio and held earlier positions at Chubb.

Beaman has over six years of experience as underwriter at Travelers, assisting Clegg and Morris with the development of its media and entertainment offering.
